Words

Words are my art
And my ministry;
I write, I speak,
I evoke, I exhale
Words,
Into the ether;
What comes next
of the symbols and breath I share
I cannot contain,
It is with benevolent intention I infuse
These words
That I trust
Will come to settle
Where they are most needed,
With Spirit,
As the guide.

Witch

The mind’s eye knows
What the physical eye does not see,
It understands what the heart denies,
I laid a table with some trifles,
Momentary thoughts made visible,
Placed a bowl of stones,
So pretty,
Made candles glow,
Cinnamon sprig for scents so lovely,
I adorn and go,
But then return,
Something calls me to the setting,
This is my space,
What am I forgetting?
Charms of luck,
Of thoughtful teachers,
I’ve a space fit for a priestess,
I gaze upon the temple I’ve created,
And see myself reflected,
An image either I avoided,
Or could not see,
My naturistic heart,
At peace,
The mother womb,
Experienced with patience,
Has waited long for this realization,
Viewing this my altar,
I am more than I thought I was to be,
The title tastes like copper on my tongue,
Savory and forbidden,
I accept the honor be it bestowed,
In name I shall try on,
My ancestors are with me
Helping me to take the mantle,
To acknowledge their often fatal sacrifice,
For sacred craft,
From core realized,
I accept this name,
This gift,
Breathing out I speak it,
“Witch”.

Free

Liberation,
In your own way you’ve taught me about that,
About the cage always being open,
Even when we fear we’re trapped inside,
Liberation,
Taking off chains of willful acquiescence,
For a higher plane of being,
For freedom,
A word we take for granted,
And abuse with use,
Liberation is escaping,
But returning to free one’s brethren,
Until all can claim to be,
Really and truly,
Unbound,
Unowned,
Free.

One Last Heartbeat

Cultural heroes pass in untimely death,
And suddenly how close mortality seems to us all,
A stark reminder that mortality is always a heartbeat away,
And despite this knowledge
Only with loss do we bend to knees and pray,
Not for miraculous everlasting life,
But for enough time while it’s ours,
To do all that is needed to be done,
To make right our actions
To let loved ones know
In word and deed that they are loved
and of their value to our personal existence,
And this all takes time,
Takes heartbeats,
-Thump-
There goes another beat,
Now is always the time,
To do what you would,
If you had just one last
Heartbeat.

In Spirit

I’m most with spirit
When creating works of art,
In faith formation
I’m off in spirit
When mind and hands are melded,
Creating a new
Spirit is in me,
Always, and I am in it,
I’m never alone
