Be who you are,
Do not downplay your dreams
and fears,
They are your own,
And so they are
More precious than gold.

To Shrink
You worry,
That everyone judges you,
For qualities innate,
For qualities socially constructed,
You worry,
That secretly they hate
What you are,
You worry
And so you shrink
That voice,
Shrink
that smile,
Shrink
that stance,
Shrink
that idea,
Shrink,
Shrink,
Shrink until you can’t find yourself,
So small,
Remember who you are,
Dare to be,
Despite
Dare to grow
Your heart and soul
New Skin
This is my new skin,
Brown,
It looks the same,
But upon closer inspection,
You will see
A glow,
A confident light,
Of something new,
Beneath,
Like a child’s smirk
Beholding a secret,
This secret is unfolding
Slowly,
Sensually,
Inch by inch, revealing
A person who wasn’t,
And was always there,
But never known,
Never seen
This skin is new,
It’s tight,
It’s the scent of a new born babe,
This is the babe
Of me
Being born,
Mentally, emotionally,
theologically,
Into the physical,
And this is just the beginning,
This labor is a process,
Unique in it’s course,
And from the womb of my mind I will grow,
To pass through and become
Who I am,
And who I am to be,
A spiritual vessel,
Clothed in
Skin.
A Jigsaw Puzzle
Putting together pieces of a self in progress,
A jigsaw puzzle,
Becoming more awe inspiring
The more that is accomplished,
Until one can gaze upon the piece in completion,
To proudly state,
“I did that”
Someone’s Hero
I do not see it,
Day to day,
The me that takes your breath
Away,
I need reminded now
And then,
That I am much greater
Than I imagine,
How far I have come,
How much I have done,
I must stop and really try
To recall,
But from the outside
From someone else’s view,
To appreciate
That I may be
Someone’s hero,
Just by being me,
Despite the odds,
By living,
By persevering
