Black and White Dresses

Most of my dresses
Of Black and white
Are Red all over,
From heart poured out.
The polkadotted one you picked specifically,
But your memory is of yellow.
A yellow dress
Of a girl way back
At the beginning;
The nostalgia of the moment we took off.
I tried to be her again,
But she’s gone;
Grown,
Into dresses fit for me now,
Dresses that feel my shape
That know my sway,
Monochrome or multishade.
I own them, in my way.
Black and white,
Read me now,
I’ve come so far,
Crashed, never burned,
360, watch me turn,
Watch me now,
Hold my own,
I spell me out
And what I deserve,
Clear as day,
In black and white.

Trust the Process

Before it had all gone south
And wires crossed
I had been on a mission,
Of gratitude
And change,
I forgot my trajectory
Amid complications,
Things turned upside down,
And I came to regret
So much of this,
Yet further reflection makes me wonder
Was this all part
Of the process,
One that is yet complete,
Of the quest I first began?
Trust the process.

After the Fall

Turned around in reflection,
What I found
I couldn’t accept,
Couldn’t escape,
Digging deeper, I aimed
to connect the pieces,
To right the wrongs
Atone for my transgressions
From when I didn’t know
Me,
And of my falling;
Fallen,
I have to stop
Now,
And look up
To see the light that guided me
back here to my ground-zero;
New moves,
About-face
to pull up
Stand strong,
Be proud
Of all I’ve come through
and back again,
Ready now
To live,
To write next pages
With fresh ink
Vision cleared,
Purpose,
And a sharpened point to this,
My life

Processing

I am processing,
All the recent things,
Rehashing what was
To understand what is;
This is difficult, necessary labor,
To birth the new,
the next
version of me,
With an upgrade in process,
Excuse any confusion
While my system comes up to date.

Impossible Possible

Do you know who you would be today,
If no one had ever crushed any of your dreams;
If doubters had paid no mind,
And never stole your thunder?
Do you know how high you would have flown,
if as a little one, no one said you “can’t ”?
Do you know right now who you are,
And how perfect and amazing you are,
Regardless of what has come before,
Or where you are now?
“Perfect” is not
A state of flawlessness,
But being of use
for what a “something” was meant to be for.
Be you- perfect,
For you,
And realize it too;
just first believe
even the impossible is possible.

Sacred Breath

*reflection on recent local windstorms and the aftermath

Sometimes, the wind blows
With a force
That makes even the seasoned Oak quiver,
And the malleable Willow seize,
At times, it makes us remember,
Despite technologies, tools,
Advancements,
Configured and utilized
By living beings,
We are still that
–Living, mortal beings,
Miniature vessels
Of this infinite infinity,
And to the wind
the tree bows
And as do we.
With heads lowered,
Hidden from us all,
On an even smaller scale
A seed sprouts;
All present feel, know,
And are humbled by
The life shaping power
Of sacred breath
