Learning Parenthood

I don’t know
How to do what I am doing
–Fake it till you make it,
But each age changes the game,
And I am back to square one,
Learning
Learning how to be the teacher,
Who vaguely knows the lesson,
A novice at the most important task,
Of raising up the babies,
But this is how it goes,
As even the seasoned
Don’t really know,
We learn from our mistakes,
And oh there are many!
We learn from the wisdom
The innocence of youth bestows,
We learn,
We learn,
And then we learn again

Contagious Light

The light that touches us,
Touches all of us,
But sometimes we are subject to being touched
By that same light,
Through another,
And we are inspired,
To seeing stars with brighter eyes,
Color with more depth;
To appreciate the smile of a homeless man,
The plight of a new mother,
The stories of lives clear across the globe;
To want to give more of yourself
To a force that is beyond your knowing;
To wanting to know and face the difficult;
To being a fuller version of yourself,
To exhibiting your own
Contagious rays of light

The Ordination

And so turns a new leaf,
As honors are bestowed,
And she takes her place of honor,
To bestow honor toward the Divine,
And shepherd her newfound flock
Through life and death,
Joy, sorrow,
And daily monotony
She is a flower bloomed,
She has become.

Love Is

Love is tear drops on a goodnight pillow when a “goodnight” is missed,
Love is concern for well being at even the most minor of scrapes,
Love is foregoing the good, so another is not left alone,
Love is giving the hard truths when most needed
Love is the tear stained shoulder,
Love is band aid kisses to make it all better,
Love is letting go,
Love is holding on,
Love is finding meaning in seemingly insignificant moments,
Love is an infinite abstract source
That keeps finding new and awe inspiring ways to be made known
Love is.
