The Way We Used To (Dreams)

Sometimes in my dreams,
We’re at a coffee shop,
Discussing everything,
The way we used to do,
Sometimes in my dreams,
You’re showing me your stomping grounds,
The way you used to,
Sometimes in my dreams,
We’re in the car,
Driving wherever the road takes us,
Like we used to do,
Sometimes in my dreams,
With candles lit, and our song on,
We passionately make love,
Like we used to,
-But scratch that-
This is my dream,
And “used to” doesn’t matter,
In my dream we still do all the things
We used to,
In my dream,
I can hold you,
And trace the outline of your face,
Run my fingers through your thick hair,
And taste your precious mouth,
I feel your body over,
in me,
we melt
As flame light flickers on the walls,
And I say your name aloud
As if an incantation to release,
This is my favorite dream,
Being possessed by you,
Loved by you,
Over and over,
Until breath seems optional,
This is my dream,
But slumber ends,
And I’m left hazy,
Hung over,
With a need,
An urgent hunger for you,
For a fill
That I will never get,
And so I rely on dreams,
Because in dreams
I can have it all,
In dreams
Our song never ends.

My Love, to Me

I wish I could pick just one
Analogy,
Or metaphor,
for you,
But you are always more,
You are the starlight,
The compass,
Guiding me by moonlight,
You are a forgotten song,
That suddenly haunts,
A stroke of déjà vu,
You are,
love,
All these things to me,
I wonder, and I guess,
What am I to you?

Guiding Me

Naming values
Is easier said
Than done,
Defining what motivates,
What drives,
What guides,
Is like catching the breath you breathe,
But, it can be done,
It can be done,
To claim a fraction of one’s identity,
What guides me?
Love;
Belief in good;
In the innate neutrality of all nature;
In the naivete of mind, driven by self-preservation, for survival;
In a unity, interconnectedness of all beings,
-Physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually;
In the reality that there is more than we can ever know;
That minds and knowledge are a gift;
In ultimate truth, unencumbered by belief;
In the beauty and necessary of diversity- cosmic creativity;
In the innate equal worth of all humans;
In the equal value of all creatures;
In the need for salvation as a daily occurrence, not for the end of times, or judgement;
In the reality of karmic balance;
In a spiritual realm, that we may never understand, though we might catch glimpses;
In evolution as a part of Divine creation;

This list is a theological reflection of mind,
Capturing pieces of my soul in diction,
But it is endlessly incomplete,
As I grow,
Moment to moment,
Understanding more,
But these remain with me,
The realized and unrealized,
Guiding in step,
Guiding in deed,
Guiding me.

For Them I Go

Moments such as this,
When I am alone in thought and deed,
I think of all that sustains me,
Of the others from whom I gain my strength,
My motive to rise
To meet the day,
My will to be,
I am nothing without the others,
And they are everything to me,
And from them,
for them,
I will,
Even when they are not near,
Or even should they no longer be here,
I will and do,
For family, blood and otherwise,
They whom are my life force,
My lifeline,
My all,
And so for them I go,
Set out into the unknown,
The sky,
The deep,
And through it all,
I shall remember who,
Their faces etched in mind,
To sustain me,
Deep breath,
One step,
I go.
