I cannot help
But think
Of all the hurting
In the world,
My bleeding heart overflows,
My mind searches,
For solutions,
My hands for a task that may bring
A greater peace,
But I am left idle,
Unable to accommodate,
Unable to find a means,
Identify a way,
To use this vessel
To help heal the world,
My words will serve as record,
Of the hearts that bled,
That lives were not forgotten,
That many of those who did “nothing”,
Did not abandon cause,
They searched within their means,
And though made weary
never completely tired of fighting
The machine

No One Else
The darkness
We are told stories about,
It is here,
Do not avert your eyes,
We brought it here,
Collectively conjured the deepest evils,
It is our job to reign the hellhounds,
That reside here,
It is our job to restore humanity,
To pick up,
To free from cages
the fallen,
the lost,
the battered
and bruised,
It is our job,
There is no one else.
To Be A Man
Little man,
I know you want to cry
But society gives you one reason why,
You should learn to toughen up,
Be a man,
Cut off human emotion
As much as you can
Even as you face this burden,
Take care
To be kind
To yourself and others,
Redefine
What it means
To be
A man.
Contagious Light
The light that touches us,
Touches all of us,
But sometimes we are subject to being touched
By that same light,
Through another,
And we are inspired,
To seeing stars with brighter eyes,
Color with more depth;
To appreciate the smile of a homeless man,
The plight of a new mother,
The stories of lives clear across the globe;
To want to give more of yourself
To a force that is beyond your knowing;
To wanting to know and face the difficult;
To being a fuller version of yourself,
To exhibiting your own
Contagious rays of light
Haymarket
I want a porcelain mug cup of coffee,
Or even make that tea,
To sit again in a plush chair
And discuss what this life means,
Let’s stroll through ways to save the world,
You know we both have the plans,
Let’s imagine we can solve it all,
With our poetic verse and hot drink in hand
“We Are All the Same”

We want to say
“We are all the same,”
And believe it with our core,
It’s the message we were taught from cut and pasted MLK,
We don’t see the whole picture
If we close our eyes and assert the truth of our sameness,
But are we all the same?
Not in experience,
I cannot say I’ve lived a day in your shoes,
To appreciate how life is as you,
Human, sentient, even then variation makes our experiences
Different,
Location, soci political climate,
Characteristics that dictate our place in it,
Social qualifiers that mark our skin, our minds, our bodies, our heritage,
And the histories behind them,
Must not be glossed over,
It must be worked through,
Recognized,
To see the truth beneath,
And the real meaning meant
Of “we are all the same”.
